Interim Seasons…

Leading for an interim season with InVia is such a great opportunity to help a church grow, heal, or connect better through worship ministry. We’re so glad you’re open to serving this way!

Below are key details on how we ask you to support ministries as an InVia Interim Worship Director, as well as contract details, info on compensation, and job requirements. Read through and if everything sounds good, simply sign below to show you agree to the terms.

Interim Worship Leadership

  • There are three key touch points each interim season includes:

Worship Leadership & Midweek Support: InVia's interim worship leader will provide support for a six month period, including Sunday services and midweek rehearsals, leading vocally and from a lead instrument (keys/piano), creating a stable point person for the team and congregation during this time. They will act as an independent contractor, under the umbrella of InVia Collective, but will report to and work directly with senior leadership. InVia will act as a covering and administrative support system for both our leader and the church.  Any weekends the Interim Worship Leader is unavailable due to vacation or illness, InVia will staff another leader in their stead from our curated, high caliber Collective at no additional cost to the church.

Weekly Department Administration: Includes worship team scheduling, Planning Center administration, midweek rehearsals & wknd services oversight, and one weekly worship planning meeting with key leadership; This can include a staff meeting or one-on-one's with the pastor/team members as needed. These meetings may be online or in person.

Intentional Transition Support: Our interim leaders work to create a path for growth and care in regard to each church's volunteer worship team. This includes both soul-care and skill-building within the current group of volunteer musicians (as much as possible), as well as an open invitation for potential worship team members to join from within the church community (auditions/jam sessions to grow team). Our interim leader will curate sets and schedules to facilitate a sound that fits both the vision for worship and the practicality of the volunteers available. Our goal is to create an environment where every weekend can feel like a win for the team because people are cared for and God is glorified.

  • We are committed to consistent and reliable financial blessing to our worship leaders, regardless of where they’re staffed.

Our stipend for interim worship leadership is $1000 per week ($4-5k/month depending on number of Sundays). This payment covers all touch points above (1 midweek rehearsal, 1 or 2 Sunday/Saturday Services, 1 midweek meeting w/key leadership, Weekly administration). When all the contractual touch points are met, this is the weekly stipend that is guaranteed.

Pay rates can decrease based on various schedule changes - including sick days, vacation time away, etc. Pay rates can increase based on other requested schedule changes from church leadership - including additional services, special holiday services that do not fall on a Sunday, nights of worship, team nights, etc. Any variables outside the regular rate will be clearly communicated to you when connecting on schedule changes you or the church desire.

  • Schedule and life changes are honored by our team, and here are the ways we support those…

Both our worship leaders and our church partners are agreeing to work in the general rhythm detailed above for the full six month interim season. But since schedules change and transitions happen, we’ve created space for any cancellations, sick days, vacations, or interim contract changes:

If either party desires to terminate the Services, a minimum of three weeks notice will be required in writing if the services are simply no longer needed, or if, for any reason, the relationship is deemed unsatisfactory by either party. Cancellation made by the church partner with less than three weeks notice will result in full payment for the current or upcoming month (depending on timing of cancellation), meaning you would still receive the agreed upon stipend after their cancellation.

If the church partner would like to substitute InVia's interim leader at any point due to an interview weekend with a candidate or other reason, without terminating the entire contract, a notice of two weeks must be given both to the leader and InVia staff.  In this case, either the interim leader will 1) still receive full compensation and act as a host/scheduling support/onsite musical backup to the candidate, or 2) can be given a weekend off, and that particular aspect of weekend service/rehearsal coverage will not be billed to the Client (though any weekly admin work will still be charged).

If full contract cancellation is initiated by InVia's interim leader, the church partner may choose to replace said leader with another from the Collective team and continue the term, or choose to end the term altogether at that time. Any monies prepaid for future service dates will be refunded if cancellation is initiated by the InVia team, and no stipends will be paid to the interim leader cancelling for that month.

Here's an overview of how starting an interim works...

  • Once we have a right-fit church seeking an interim role, we will ask you to do a weekend of leading to feel out your comfortability level and connectivity with the leadership. This will work just like our regular weekly staffing model for the trial week (you’ll receive an email from our office confirming you’re scheduled to serve with InVia on the dates you gave us). We will then reach out with custom details and stipend info for the church (typically this includes a midweek rehearsal, but not a staff meeting).

  • Once you’re dates and details are confirmed, our staff will send you a Worship One-Sheet for the church you’ll be leading at, which contains all the info you'll need to serve that community well. Our team will always go over this document with you and highlight any specific notes (like sermon theme, Communion Sunday, etc) that could affect your song choices or need your attention. They’ll also be sure to connect with you on deadlines for set lists to be submitted and will be your direct contact during the week if you have any questions or concerns. You do not need to reach out to a pastor or team member at the church unless otherwise noted - the InVia team are your contacts for anything related to you leading that weekend. So if you have any service related questions, just reach out to the Church Partner Associate who’s working with you.

Once you have the Worship One Sheet and church info, be sure to have set lists finalized and loaded into the respective church's Planning Center, by the requested date before the weekend you’re leading.

Sunday morning call times are always at the top of the One Sheet, along with address, and info for your Sunday morning contact at the church. Be sure you read through all of the One Sheet so you'll be fully set to do what you've been called to do!

Remember that most churches in transition are not only in need of good music, they can also be lacking pastoral connection and care in the worship department. So we encourage our leaders to take time to say hi and connect a bit with the worship team or congregation members - it’s a huge blessing to the communities we serve, and can make a big impact as you enter an interim season. We want you to learn what you can to discern if this is a good place for your time and talent.

  • After you’ve led with us, we will process payouts on Mondays, and will follow up with you during the week on next steps with the interim. You can always decline to move into an interim season, and the church can decline to move forward with a leader we’ve staffed for a trial weekend. Typically, it’s an easy transition to say yes on both ends, but we never want pressure for our leaders or church partners, so space to decide is key.

Once a church and leader have decided to move forward, the church will sign the interim leader contract and an official start date will be set. You as an InVia leader will receive weekly payouts from InVia, but will be able to connect directly with church leadership ongoing. InVia acts as an umbrella covering the worship leader in case of any out of contract requests, questionable asks, or uncomfortable situations. We protect and care for our leaders while they are '“on mission” for an interim season, so any concerns should immediately come to InVia leadership so we can support and act as advocates. Similarly, any potential issues that church leadership face with an InVia leader come directly to InVia leadership as well, allowing us to check in with leaders and guide them into positive engagements with leadership as needed. Our goal is that churches are well cared for, while our leaders are valued, honored, and paid well for their ministry.

Everything sound good?

If you’ve read through everything and are ready to work in the ways specified above, you can submit your name and email below. Doing so will e-sign our Interim Leadership Agreement. Once submitted, you’re good to go!
